The rain pounded heavily on the roof of the Grand Library.  The building was huge, being three stories high, covering nearly 5,000 sq feet of Corneria City, and reaching down three levels.  The massive hall-like Master Chamber enhanced the sound of the rain.  In the six balconies that lined the edges of the Master Chamber, the various smatterings of readers took a solemn listen.  That’s when they heard that haunting song rising up to the stone ceiling above.

Home is behind
The world ahead
and there are many paths to tread,
through shadow
to the edge of night
until the stars are all alight

Mist and shadow
cloud and shade
all shall fade
all shall...
Fade.

A few of them ventured to the ledges, wanting to see who would sing such a strange song.  Below, wandering the halls of the shelves was a beautiful human.  Unconsciously, she was singing the song.  A few found cold tears roll down.  Wearing a beautiful black kimono, the human really seemed to set the haunting mood of the day.  It was a day that many mourned.  It was the day that James McCloud was betrayed.  Nearly ten years later, everyone mourned.  But no one mourned more than Fox.  On this day, he stood in the rain, a black umbrella hiding his tears.  He was before his father’s empty grave.

Fox seemed more distant than usual.  Year by year, the sorrow of that loss ate away at him.  He was slowly loosing those he needed most.  Falco had left, Peppy just never wanted to discuss the matter, and Slippy was becoming more worried about Great Fox.  His cold tears rolled freely.  He turned and walked away.  He never saw the hazel eyes of that human gazing at him.

“Don’t worry, Fox.  Your day will come.  You will find a day in which you are surrounded by friends.  You will find the love of your life, loose her, and then get her back again.  You will know the bliss of fatherhood one day.  Sorrows will come as well, but you will have a day in the sun.”

The rain fell on Corneria, mourning the loss of a great man.
Spoiler much!
This is a story I came up with while listening to
"The Steward of Gondor" aka "Pippin's Song."
The song makes a feature in this little short. I hope you like it; it's like a mini-preview to my story!

It was a pain in the * to get this story loaded up. DeviantART doesn't like my word files anymore....
